In a recent conversation with a colleague she expressed her concern's about how most social and family gatherings in Ireland are usually fulled with allot of alcohol to get the "craic" going. But from what I have witnessed so far from the St Patrick's Festival activities I would have to disagree with her. Since the beginning the festival was promoted as a family affair, claiming to offer a spectrum of great art performances- I was doubtful at first I must admit. But going onto the St Patrick's Festival website http://www.stpatricksfestival.ie/, and viewing their events calendar it has exceeded all of my expectations. With offers from films, Irish dancing and the sky fest you can really see allot of effort has gone into making this festival very special. After what I saw at the parade today families, teens, and tourists were out enjoying it -with the vast majority sober. Has the promotion of this event changed the view away from a day of drinking, or has the increased legislation on when off licences can open have some effect?
